We are pleased to share a short summary of this year’s Kainuu Digital Summit and its accompanying academic program. Over two days, the events brought together approximately 105 participants. The second day saw the largest audience, with 75–80 attendees from more than ten countries.
Day 1 – Academic Program: Insights From Research
The first day focused on research presentations and discussions. The academic program covered a broad range of topics, including AI for climate misinformation detection, intensive-care decision support, computer-vision applications in retail, quantum-enhanced blockchain, AI for sustainable tourism, and ethical frameworks for responsible AI.
The sessions encouraged calm, thoughtful exchange and offered researchers and practitioners a chance to connect across disciplines.
Day 2 – Main Event: Practical Applications and Regional Cooperation
The second day brought together representatives from companies, startups, academia and the public sector. The program included presentations on AI in energy systems, sustainable data centers, high-performance computing, and the practical steps organisations can take when developing or adopting AI solutions.
Many participants noted the value of hearing concrete examples and experiences from Nordic and European partners. The day also provided space for informal conversations, where ideas for future collaborations emerged naturally.
Strengthening an International but Regionally Rooted Community
With participants from more than ten nationalities, the Summit reflected the increasingly international character of digital development in our region.
Both days highlighted the importance of building connections between research and practice — and the benefit of taking time to meet, reflect, and learn from one another.
Thank You
We would like to thank all speakers, participants and partners for contributing to two constructive and inspiring days.
The next steps will continue to build on the ideas and connections formed during the event. We look forward to seeing many of you again next year.
