A unique offering of supercomputing environments and expertise on a global scale

Renforsin Ranta business park in the City of Kajaani is a location for CSC – IT Center for Science Ltd.’s national supercomputing environments and forthcoming LUMI EuroHPC supercomputer. Modern infrastructure includes supercomputers supporting artificial intelligence, secure data management, and reliable communications to the world.

Previous environments combined with the expertise of AIKA partners, including CSC’s well-recognized reputation and wide contacts in EU research programs, offer excellent support for Finnish companies to explore the possibilities of supercomputing and HPC in their businesses.

Financial support for research and proof-of-concept projects is available from Business Finland’s AI Business Program and AI Computing Grant.  Companies can also apply for funding from their local financiers, like in Kainuu region from Kainuu ELY-Centre* and Regional Council of Kainuu. At the EU level, SMEs can apply for support for HPC from SHAPE (SME HPC Adoption Programme in Europe).

Kajaani University of Applied Science (KAMK) is ready to help companies in smaller-scale data analytics and AI pilots with their students and Arctic HPC supercomputer, globally one of the kind supercomputer environment for education.

CASE LUMI

The European flagship supercomputer LUMI will be one of top-ranked globally. LUMI is a EuroHPC pre-exascale supercomputer hosted by a consortium of ten European countries and will be placed in the CSC’s data center in Kajaani. When the operations start in 2021, it will be one of the most competitive supercomputers in the world and a leadership-class platform for artificial intelligence providing HPC and AI resources for European researchers in academia and industry.
